Dr. Zinette Bergman is a Senior Researcher in the Social Research and Methodology Group and a member of the Social Transitions Research team. She contributes to the development, coordination, implementation, and dissemination of research, with an emphasis on qualitative methods.

Her research focuses on the design and analysis of positive case studies, developed within the group’s Proof of Transition Concept (proTract) framework. These case studies investigate the dynamics of socio-sustainable transitions, highlighting successful interventions, institutional innovations, and transformative practices across diverse sectors. By showcasing how public, private, and civil society actors co-produce effective solutions, the group advances theoretical frameworks and offers actionable, replicable insights for informing policy and fostering change in complex, real-world contexts.

With over 15 years of research and publication experience, Dr. Bergman engages in methodological innovation and sustainability transitions research. An important strand of her work involves pushing the boundaries of case study research—seeking to expand its analytical power and practical relevance, while maintaining academic rigor in the face of real-world complexity. In addition to her research, Dr. Bergman supports proposal development, project coordination, and research reporting. She also contributes to teaching through mentorship of junior researchers and by delivering presentations and workshops on a number of qualitative research methods and techniques. Her contributions aim to strengthen the integration of social transitions research, methodological development, and societal impact.
