Mobility

The study of sociology requires adopting different and unfamiliar perspectives on the everyday facts connected to social order. Spending time at a foreign university and participating in discussions taking place in a different context helps promote this “broadening of the mind,” which is so important for sociological imagination. The Department of Sociology at the University of Basel therefore encourages student mobility. Link to the mobility programs of the University of Basel.

Within the framework of the ERASMUS program, the Department of Sociology has concluded direct agreements with a number of universities. The advantages of this program are that it simplifies admission to the host university and exempts participants from tuition fees. During your stay abroad, you remain enrolled at your home university, but are unable to earn credit points there. Conversely, the credits you earn abroad will be recognized. The financial support awarded amounts to around CHF 300 per month.

Please contact the Department of Sociology if you would like to spend an ERASMUS semester studying at one of the universities listed on the right. Additional universities with which an ERASMUS agreement has been concluded can be found here. If you would like to study at one of these universities, please get in touch with the Mobility Office.

Contact

The places available from the bilateral agreements in sociology are allocated on a rolling basis as applications are received. Students of sociology will be given priority.

Please send an email to soziologie@clutterunibas.ch or to the ERASMUS coordinator with your request to take advantage of an ERASMUS semester. We will get in touch with you.

Before beginning your stay abroad, a study contract must be drawn up. The contract must be signed by the host university and the sociology department at the latest at the beginning of your stay abroad. Download study contract.

Students who wish to have compulsory courses from the methods or theory module or a (pro)seminar paper recognized must sort this out with the responsible professor IN ADVANCE. If a (pro)seminar paper is written, a learning contract must also be drawn up IN ADVANCE.

After your stay abroad, you will need to complete the form Recognition of credits earned abroad and submit it to the ERASMUS coordinator of the Department of Sociology, along with the transcript of records from the host university. The Department of Sociology will then assign the credits to the modules.

Students must obtain a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a replacement certificate from their health insurance provider to ensure full insurance coverage in other European countries. Their liability insurance must also be internationally valid to ensure full insurance cover.
