The secretariat is the contact point for general information, issues of concern to students, lecturers and staff, and information about studies (structure, modules, examination entitlements, etc.).
Opening hours during the semester:

Please read the study regulations, guidelines and other documents before registering for a consultation session (see documents). Please note as well that we cannot answer questions about the content of or procedures followed in other subject areas.

  • For general inquiries about your studies, for administrative concerns or if you are interested in studying a semester abroad, please contact Dinah Suter by telephone at 061 207 65 63 or by email.
  • Dr. Johanna Fröhlich (contact by email at studienberatung-soziologie@unibas.ch) is responsible for giving subject-specific academic advice, as well as for questions regarding the study planning and the admission to the master’s degree program (especially if your bachelor’s degree was not in sociology).
  • For information about applying at the University of Basel, or for questions which arise in connection with a change of study subject, please consult the Student Administration Office of the University of Basel (Petersplatz 1, 4001 Basel).
  • For questions about examinations (registration, deadlines, dates), the recognition of credits and grades achieved at other universities, or the management of credit points, please contact the Student Administration Services of the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (Bernoullistrasse 28, 4056 Basel).
  • Please contact a faculty member directly for issues concerning the supervision of proseminar and seminar papers.

The general spaces, library and lounge are accessible Mon–Fri from 8 am to 6 pm.

Directions to Petersgraben 27

Arrival by tram (6, 8, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17)
Get off at the station “Schifflände”, walk up the stairs to the right of the car park to Peterskirche and then turn left into Petersgraben.

Arrival by train (Station: Basel SBB)
Take bus no. 30 in the direction of “Badischer Bahnhof.” Get off at the stop "Spalentor," walk down Spalengraben to the left of Spalentor and cross Petersplatz.

Arrival by train (Station: Badischer Bahnhof)
Take bus no. 30 in the direction of “Bahnhof SBB.” Get off at the stop "Spalentor." Cross the street and walk down Spalengraben to the left of Spalentor and cross Petersplatz.

Arrival by plane (Euroairport Basel)
First, take bus no. 50 in the direction of “Bahnhof SBB” and get off at the last station “Bahnhof SBB.” Then change to bus no. 30 in the direction of “Badischer Bahnhof.” Get off at the stop “Spalentor,” walk down Spalengraben to the left of Spalentor and cross Petersplatz.

Directions to Rheinsprung 24

Arrival by tram
Take the tram line 6, 8, 14 or 17 and get off at the station “Schifflände”, go past the bridge beginning on the left side (Mittlere Brücke) and walk up the Rheinsprung.
Or take tram number 2 and get off at the station “Kunstmuseum”, turn into Rittergasse, then continue walking straight past Basel Minster, which will take you into Augustinergasse and finally Rheinsprung.

Arrival by train (Station: Basel SBB)
Take tram no. 2 in the direction of "Riehen Dorf" to the stop “Kunstmuseum.” Continue on foot on the left-hand side of the street (in the same direction the tram was travelling), turn left into Rittergasse, then continue walking straight past Basel Minster, which will take you into Augustinergasse and finally Rheinsprung.

Arrival by train (Station: Badischer Bahnhof)
Take tram no. 2 in the direction of “Bahnhof SBB.” Get off at the stop “Kunstmuseum.” Walk back a few meters on the right-hand side of the road (relative to the direction of travel of the tram), turn left into Rittergasse, then continue walking straight past Basel Minster, which will take you into Augustinergasse and finally Rheinsprung.

Arrival by plane (Euroairport Basel)
Take bus no. 50 in the direction of “Bahnhof SBB” to the last stop “Bahnhof SBB,” change to tram no. 2 in the direction of “Riehen Dorf.” Get off at the stop “Kunstmuseum.” Continue on foot on the left-hand side of the street (in the same direction the tram was travelling), turn left into Rittergasse, then continue walking straight past Basel Minster, which will take you into Augustinergasse and finally Rheinsprung.
